Admissions news at HSE University

The Master of Data Science (MDS) programme launched by HSE University in 2020 is the first and only online master’s programme on Coursera in Russia. The latest admissions campaign for the programme has now begun. Second-year students Vasilina Denyakina and Valery Sedin spoke to the HSE News Service about how the latest theoretical and practical knowledge with a focus on solving real industry problems helps train sought-after professionals. They also talked about the wide variety of data science research topics.

The Master's programme 'Management and Analytics for Business' is designed to instruct students on how to make independent managerial decisions on the basis and with the aid of analytical tools. Its academic director, professor at the St. Petersburg School of Economics and Management, Angel Barajas, revealed to our editorial board what tools and methods are used to train in-demand specialists and why there is no Bill Gates among the programme's professors.

Many international students choose HSE University as their academic mobility destination. Some travel to Moscow to immerse themselves in a new culture, while others take online mobility options due to pandemic-related restrictions. HSE News Service spoke to three students about their exchange semester at HSE University.

HSE University offers a wide range of online and in-person preparatory programmes for international students, including various Russian language courses for future Bachelor’s and Master’s students, intensive Maths training in Russian, and an English-taught course in Economics. The new online Master of Data and Network Analytics (MDNA) programme on Coursera teaches students to analyze the massive amounts of data accumulated by people and machines. In a time of intensive economic digitalization, the master's programme aims to meet the challenges of the labour market and train highly qualified specialists in full-cycle data analysis. Valentina Kuskova, Academic Supervisor of the full-time and online programmes, Head of the International Laboratory for Applied Network Research, PhD at Indiana University, told HSE News Service about how the MDNA master's programme trains students to think in innovative ways.

Van Ly Vu took Prep Year programme at HSE University before enrolling in BA in Advertising and Public Relations. In her column for HSE Illuminated, an online student newsletter, she shares her story of becaming a student of HSE University.

Fernanda Florido-Calvo came to HSE University in Nizhny Novgorod from Chile to study mathematics. While on her two-year Master of Science in Mathematics programme, she wrote her master’s thesis and presented it at the All-Russia Contest of Diploma Thesis of Russian Mathematicians 2021, where she won two awards with full marks.
