Education news at HSE University

Element Group, one of the largest developers and manufacturers of microelectronics in Russia, will become HSE University's key industrial partner in creating a new system to train specialists in high-tech industries. The training will be organised at the HSE Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (HSE MIEM).

One of the oldest programmes at HSE University-St Petersburg is the English-taught Bachelor's programme 'Sociology and Social Informatics'. It has existed for more than ten years, and over this time, the programme has helped many students gain interdisciplinary skills and find their own unique career paths. In this article, Academic Supervisor Anna Nemirovskaya explains how the programme has adapted to modern realities, what sociology truly is, and how one can implement a sociological education.

HSE University’s Eastern Perspective expert club has held its first event—a business session dedicated to launching and developing successful businesses in India. The club was created by HSE experts to discuss tools, trends, and insights for cooperation between Russia and countries in Southeast Asia, the Middle and Near East, and North Africa. The event featured experts with years of successful experience working in the Indian market on behalf of major global corporations.

On January 15, 2025, the Russian-Brazilian Colloquium on Logical Pluralism was held at the HSE International Laboratory for Logic, Linguistics and Formal Philosophy to mark World Logic Day. This event was part of the joint project ‘Pluralistic Perspectives on Logic and Formal Philosophy,’ implemented by the laboratory and the Centre for Logic, Epistemology and the History of Science at the University of Campinas (Brazil) under the International Academic Cooperation competition.

These include two undergraduate programmes—Business Administration at HSE University in Perm and Computer Game Programming and Engineering at HSE University in St Petersburg. The other four programmes are Master's programmes: Digital Marketing in Nizhny Novgorod, Economics and Business Consulting in St Petersburg, Artificial Intelligence Technologies in Telecommunications, and Theatre and Performing Arts Producer in Moscow. These training programmes will be launched in the next academic year.

Experts from the HSE Continuing Education Centre, the Master's Programme 'Artificial Intelligence', and Yandex Education have developed and published a free math handbook in data analysis (in Russian). This is the seventh online publication in a series of digital self-study textbooks dedicated to specific IT areas.

A new project-based learning robotics laboratory has been established at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science. Its creation stemmed from a robotics group formed at the faculty in 2021 on the initiative of alumni. The laboratory's activities will focus on developing autonomous robots capable of operating in complex and dynamic environments.

A new joint department with the Marchuk Institute of Numerical Mathematics (INM RAS) has been established at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science. This collaboration promises to combine the scientific and educational resources of two leading research centres, enabling the training of highly qualified specialists. The department is headed by Dr Andrey Bogatyrev, a professor and Doctor of Physics and Mathematics.
