International Conference on Corporate Sustainable Development to Be Held at HSE University

On December 12–13, 2025, the School of Finance of the HSE Faculty of Economic Sciences will host the Third International Annual Conference ‘ESG Corporate Dynamics: the Challenges for Emerging Capital Markets.’ Representatives of leading Russian and international universities will discuss the issues involved in companies’ transition to sustainable development principles and in managing new types of risk.
New risks linked to the climate agenda, social relations in business, and the role of boards of directors in managing this complex risk landscape are now being actively discussed at the level of governments and international development institutions, as well as within the academic community.
The HSE School of Finance focuses on new corporate practices in countries with emerging capital markets, particularly within the BRICS group; the development of innovative financing and investment management tools (such as climate finance); the assessment of business engagement with various stakeholder groups; and the impact of these communications on companies’ financial performance.
Such academic discussions make it possible to develop a roadmap for companies across the extended BRICS group to transition to new business models based on the principles of sustainable development.
Irina Ivashkovskaya
‘We are steadily building communication with universities from these countries and with researchers from Russian universities, because this topic is the future—above all for the Russian economy. It is important to emphasise that, despite the challenges of the current period, the President of Russia has set the task of assessing businesses’ contribution to social capital, which is directly linked to companies across different sectors adopting ESG (environmental, social and governance) principles,’ notes Irina Ivashkovskaya, Tenured Professor and Head of the HSE School of Finance.
These issues form the core of the programme of the Third International Annual Conference ‘ESG Corporate Dynamics: the Challenges for Emerging Capital Markets.’ This year’s conference will feature 23 presentations. The participants come from China, Pakistan, Iran, Canada, Romania, and, of course, Russia, represented by leading universities including HSE University, Moscow State University, MGIMO, St Petersburg State University, Ural Federal University, and others.
The keynote speaker will be Wu Kai, Executive Director of the Private Investment Fund Research Centre at the School of Finance, Central University of Finance and Economics (China). He will present a report entitled ‘The Hidden Costs of Greening Supply Chains.’
The programme will be delivered in a hybrid format (offline and online). The working languages are Russian and English, with simultaneous interpretation provided.
The conference will take place at HSE’s Pokrovsky Bulvar campus in Moscow. Full information and the programme are available on the conference website. Registration for participants wishing to attend as listeners is open until 3 pm on December 11, 2025.
