HSE Rector to Become a Member of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation

Russian President Vladimir Putin has invited Yaroslav Kuzminov to become a member of the Civic Chamber. A law, passed at the end of December, 2013 laid down new principles of how the Chamber is formed.

The new  Chamber will include 166 members, 40 of whom are approved by the President. One of the President’s invitations  came to the HSE Rector Yaroslav Kuzminov, who currently heads the Commission for educational development.

A further 83 members of the Civic Chamber will be delegated to its regional associations, and the remaining 43 members will be elected from  public organisations by  online voting.  The Chamber must convene with its new members no later than in July, 2014.

The Chamber’s function is to facilitate coordination between the  interests of Russian citizens, NGOs, and national and local authorities, in order to resolve the most important problems of economic and social development, to ensure national security, and to defend the rights and freedoms of  Russian citizens, the Russian constitution, and the democratic principles of developing civil society in Russia.
