HSE Student Team Wins Grant in Masters of Hospitality Competition
The all-Russia competition, a project of the Russia — Land of Opportunities presidential platform, saw the students compete with other teams of young contestants. The team led by Alexander Aksyutin, a master’s student of the HSE Graduate School of Business, received a grant of 1.4 million Russian rubles, which the team plans to spend on a social project to promote tourism in Voronezh Oblast.
Researchers Compare Energy Consumption During Extraction and Synthesis of One Diamond Carat
Researchers from HSE University, RAS, and Skoltech have compared actual specific energy consumption in the production of diamonds using traditional (mining) and innovative (synthesis) methods. Depending on the technology, 36 to 215 kWh of energy is consumed to produce a 1 carat diamond. It turned out that not all diamond synthesis technologies surpass extraction methods in terms of energy efficiency. The results of the study were published in the journal Energies.
HSE University Appears in Twice as Many Top 100 Subject Rankings as Last Year
The publication of the latest Times Higher Education subject rankings in the Arts and Humanities concludes the annual cycle of the three main ranking agencies: THE, QS, and ARWU. Since last year, HSE University has managed to double the number of top 100 subject rankings it appears in, growing from 6 to 12.
Researchers Begin to Understand Correlation of Schumann Resonances and Dust Storms on Mars
The interaction of dust particles in Martian dust storms may cause electric fields that are powerful enough to have charges that induce standing electromagnetic waves known as Sсhumann resonances. This is the conclusion drawn by physicists from HSE University, the Space Research Institute, and MIPT. The paper was published in Icarus journal.
Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation Announces Winners of Two Innovation Competitions
The winners of the KIVO Education Innovation Competition and the Innovator’s Voice all-Russia contest of youth social and educational innovations have been announced. Both competitions were organized by HSE University: KIVO 2021 in partnership with the Rybakov Foundation with support from the Agency for Strategic Initiatives, and Innovator’s Voice with support from the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs.
HSE University Enters Top 150 of THE Reputation Rankings
HSE University has improved on last year's result, entering the 126–150 range of the Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings. Among Russian universities, HSE University shares 2–4th place with the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and St. Petersburg State University.
HSE University Now Appears in Six US News Global Subject Rankings
In the recently published US News Best Global Universities rankings, HSE University now appears in six subject rankings—an increase from four in 2020. The two latest additions are in Arts and Humanities (ranked 207th) and Psychiatry/Psychology (ranked 374th). The university once again placed highly in Mathematics (85th), maintaining its position among the top 100 universities worldwide in the subject and ranking second among Russian institutions.
Staff of HSE Centre for Language and Brain Studies Take Part in Unique Brain Surgery
A unique awake brain surgery has been carried out in Nizhny Novgorod with the participation of staff of the Centre for Language and Brain Studies. For the first time, neurolinguists in Nizhny Novgorod assisted in the removal of a brain tumour with mapping of a bilingual patient who is a native speaker of Tatar and Russian. The participants—Natalia Gronskaya, Director of the Centre for Language and Brain Studies, Alina Minnigulova, research assistant, and Lilia Mavlekhanova, invited expert and native speaker of Tatar—spoke about the specifics of the operation.
HSE University Receives International Award for Best Practices in Research Management
HSE University has won in a joint nomination by the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) international rankings agency and the company Elsevier. The award was presented as part of the forum ‘Development Trends in the Social Sciences and Humanities: Global Challenges and Best Russian Practices’ hosted by the State Academic University for the Humanities. Irina Karelina, Senior Director for Strategic Planning at HSE University, accepted the award and noted that the university’s success is largely down to its consistent personnel and research policies, as well as its support for young people.
HSE University Students Present Their Start-Ups at Expocentre
Reklama 2021, the 28th international specialized expedition for advertising, was held at Expocentre from October 18–21 as part of the programme for Russia’s Year of Science and Technology. The HSE University stand at the exhibition showcased projects by students of the minor ‘Start-up from Scratch: Creating Your Own Business.’ The exhibition also included the signing of a cooperation agreement between the university and Expocentre AO.
