The Future at HSE: STUDENT NIGHT 2025
Thousands of participants, top-tier speakers, reunions with friends, and a dance party—all of this came together to make the traditional HSE festival hosted by the university's oldest and largest student organisation, Ingroup CtC.STUDENT NIGHT took place on January 24–25, 2025 at the Pokrovka campus, where thrilling contests were followed by extracurricular lectures, and master classes alternated with stand-up performances and dance battles. Special guests included stand-up comedian Nurlan Saburov, indie rock band Sirotkin, and Olympic champions.
Friendship and Love, Victory and Defeat at the Winter Screening of HSE Student Animations
On January 30, the Rovesnik bar will host a screening of outstanding animations by students of the HSE Art and Design School. The programme features more than forty animated works exploring the themes of friendship and love, victory and defeat, and simply fun stories. In addition to artistic animations, visitors will be able to see advertisements, promos, and videos for nonprofit organisations. All of these works were created by students based on briefs from real clients.

‘We Strive to Become Part of a Living Tradition’: Christmas Festivities at HSE
On January 15, 2025, people dressed in traditional Russian folk costumes and sang carols accompanied by an accordion, rattles, and wooden spoons. The festive event, organised by the HSE Heritage Club at the HSE campus on Pokrovsky Bulvar, was open to everyone, attracting not only students and university staff but also local residents and their children.
SmallShorts 2025: HSE Art and Design School Welcomes Applications for International Student Festival of Screen Arts
The SmallShorts Festival will be held via the HSE Art and Design School competitive platform as part of the ninth season of the HSE CREATIVE OPEN International Student Award until March 17, 2025. The competition is divided into three categories.
Fortunes, Cards, and Sweets: School of Asian Studies Holds Japanese Bōnenkai Celebration
For a few hours, HSE University transformed into a Japanese enclave in the heart of Moscow as the campus hosted a traditional bōnenkai end-of-year festival. The Musubi Japanese club of the School of Asian Studies invited anyone interested to find out what kadomatsu are, how to make traditional nengajo New Year’s cards, and to take part in some New Year’s traditions they might not be familiar with.
Real Tasks and Direct Interaction with Employers: HSE School of Foreign Languages Holds Poster Session
For the second time, the HSE School of Foreign Languages has held a defence of specialised projects developed by fourth-year students of the Bachelor’s Programme in Foreign Languages and Intercultural Communication. Representatives of major companies and organisations that support the school’s project activities gathered to evaluate the projects during a poster session.
First HSE CS x BRICS Ideathon Held at HSE University
On December 8, 2024, HSE’s Pokrovka campus hosted the first HSE CS x BRICS Ideathon, organised by the Hackathon Club of the Faculty of Computer Science and the HSE Multilateral Strategic Projects Office. The event was supported by the BRICS Expert Council–Russia, which endorsed the initiative as part of HSE's activities in the BRICS Network University.
HSE Student among Winners of Yandex Cup 2024
In early December, the finals of the Yandex Cup international programming competition took place in Tashkent (Uzbekistan). The prize, which totalled a record 16 million roubles, was shared among the winners from Russia, Belarus, Japan, the USA, Portugal, and the United Kingdom. Dmitry Rempel, student of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science, won in the Backend track.
Gold, Silver, and Bronze: All Six Teams of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science Earn Medals at ICPC Semi-Final
On December 13–15, 2024, the final round of theNorthern Eurasia Contests (the semi-final of theInternational Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC)) took place. Six teams from the HSEFaculty of Computer Science (FCS) participated, and each of them won an award. The overall winner was the FCS team Surstrumien Bobra.
