In a world where deadlines loom and procrastination tempts, a group of researchers—Kseniya Adamovich, Aleksandra Getman, Anastasia Kapuza, and Adelina Fayzullina—set out to uncover the secrets of how adult learners tackle their assignments. Their study, published in The Language Learning Journal, dives into the habits of over 70,000 English learners on an online platform, revealing surprising truths about time management, task completion, and academic success. What they found challenges conventional wisdom and offers fresh insights into the age-old question: Does slow and steady really win the race?

The May session of the International PhD Seminar in Education brought together researchers from different countries to conduct a discussion based on three studies carried out by researchers from Indonesia and Russia, focusing on how knowledge is structured, how humanities should be taught in schools, and how cognitive and emotional factors influence the development of future teachers.

The session of the International PhD Seminar in Education held on March 10 marked another step in continuing the platform’s tradition of fostering global academic dialogue. The seminar featured two compelling presentations that addressed pressing issues in online education and educational equity, showcasing diverse methodological approaches and offering actionable insights for educational policy and practice.

For the first time since the begining of the COVID-19 pandemic, our colleagues went to the international offline conference, European Conference on Educational Research (ECER) 2022, which took place in Yerevan, Armenia this year. ECER conferences are held annually, attracting researchers from more than 70 countries, and are organized by the European Educational Research Association. We asked our colleagues to share their impressions of the conference and talk about the research they presented.

Researchers from the HSE University Institute of Education have studied data on the work schedule of teachers in an online English-language school and have shown that women aged 25–35 work less than men. This is connected to lower workloads in the evenings. The article ‘Women in gig economy work less in the evenings’ has been published in Scientific Reports.

The research of the International Laboratory of Evaluation of Practices and Innovations in Education was included in the research base of the Laboratory of Action against Poverty Abdul Latif Jamil (Poverty Action Lab, J-PAL)

Young scholars Anastasia Kapuza and Galina Larina, who teach in IOE’s Measurements in Psychology and Education Master’s program, traveled to England and the Netherlands this summer to join international schools for multidisciplinary social researchers at Essex University and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. “The schools have provided a host of insights about today’s top-notch approaches to social data analysis and interpretation, and we are absolutely thrilled to be sharing this expertise with IOE students in the new academic year,” Anastasia and Galina say.
