On January 16, HSE Rector Yaroslav Kuzminov spoke at the expert panel, ‘Digital Revolution in Education and New Training Technologies’, at the 2020 Gaidar Forum, ‘Russia and the World: Challenges of the New Decade’, which was held at the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA).

Lorna Awania, from Uganda, came to study at the HSE ICEF Master's programme in Financial Economics in 2018. She is currently preparing her master thesis, which focuses on Ugandan financial policy. In this interview, Lorna talks about getting used to Moscow cold and adapting to an unfamiliar country, career prospects for women in Uganda, and her reasons for choosing ICEF master's programme.

The Innovation Workshop that opened at MIEM HSE has everything you might need to create an engineering project: from numerically controlled machines to a soldering station. In honour of the event, the university’s Palmyra Club held an evening of Arabic poetry. The future orientalists read works by their favourite authors, as well as their own translations of the poems. School of Asian Studies graduates, who had won grants to study at a university in Qatar, also shared their recommendations as to who should study Arabic.

HSE University online courses are available on Coursera since December 23. ‘First Steps in Linear Algebra for Machine Learning’ has become the hundredth course to be offered by HSE University.

The best features of the university model created by HSE over the years will be preserved, but a new model is essential for further development. This new model will focus on project-based learning for all students, as well as the digital transformation in the field of education.

HSE MIEM Professor Alexander Varnavsky has developed a chatbot to increase the success of implementing a ‘Flipped Classroom’ approach in his teaching. He presented the bot at the International Conference-Competition of Innovative Educational Technology held at Moscow State University, where it took first place in the ‘Information and Pedagogical Technology’ category.

More than 40,000 participants from 183 countries have already registered for the Open Doors Scholarship Competition. The competition, which is held by the Association of Global Universities, gives international applicants the opportunity to enroll tuition-free in a Master’s programme of a participating Russian university of their choice without having to take entrance exams. The deadline to submit your portfolio for consideration is December 18.
