Elena Okorochenko, Managing Director of Asia-Pacific Ratings at S&P Global Ratings, is not only a graduate of HSE’s first class of students; she has also contributed to the formation of the university as a whole. In the latest edition of Success Builder, Elena tells us how she only changed companies twice throughout her entire career, as well as how she manages a regional S&P Global division, shares her colleagues’ love for Asian cuisine, and never finds herself in a traffic jam in Singapore because they just don’t exist.

The UBI Awards Ceremony was held on February 22 at the World Incubation Summit at Ryerson University, Toronto. HSE’s Business Incubator has entered the ranking for the second in a row. In 2015, it was ranked 14^th in the category ‘best business incubator managed by a university’ among more than 100.

After receiving her PhD in Psychology from the University of the Basque Country, Beatriz Martín-Luengo arrived in Moscow in 2015 to join the Centre for Cognition & Decision Making at HSE as a Research Fellow. Since then, she has pursued research interests that focus on the ecological study of human memory (i.e., variables that affect our recollection) and metamemory, which is the introspective knowledge of one's own memory capabilities (and strategies that can aid memory) and the processes involved in memory self-monitoring.

On February 20, the first online stage of the International Data Analysis Olympiad (IDAO) was completed. IDAO was organised by the Faculty of Computer Science of the Higher School of Economics in partnership with Harbour.Space University (Barcelona), Yandex and with the Gold sponsor, Sberbank.

Researchers at the Higher School of Economics (HSE University) have revealed that Russian companies need to invest in the development of intellectual resources in order to maximize the benefits from partners in developed countries. Results of the study have been published in the journal, Knowledge Management Research & Practice.

The HSE Center for Language and Brain studies a broad range of topics related to the connection between the brain and language. For Svetlana Malyutina, Deputy Head, and Mariya Khudyakova, Junior Research Fellow, particularly interesting areas of focus include the breakdown of language processing after brain damage (e.g., stroke, neurosurgery, epilepsy) and language acquisition in children.

On February 16, the ‘Silver Archer’ prizes were awarded in Moscow. HSE Science Battles, a project designed by HSE students, made it to the top three in the ‘Technologies of the Future’ category. It was also judged ‘best project’ in this category by the student jury, and was awarded a special prize by Russian Venture Company, the category’s partner.

By early spring, HSE will have launched a range of new courses on Coursera in psychology, computer language analysis, economics, media and international relations.
