HSE University Teams Win Gold and Three Bronzes in ICPC Semifinals
In December, the Northern Eurasia Regional Contests (NERC)—the semifinal of the ICPC international programming contest—took place. This year’s competition featured around 300 teams comprising 900 participants from Russia and other CIS countries. The contest took place simultaneously in St Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Astana, and Kutaisi. The majority of teams—a total of 152—took part in the competition at St Petersburg’s MTS Live Hall venue.
HSE University Students Become European Champions of Qatar’s Debate
Anton Klyuev, fifth-year student of the Bachelor’s in Asian and African Studies, and Artem Saenko, graduate of the same programme, have won the European round of the Qatar’s Debate competition, beating 11 teams from non-Arabic-speaking countries.
HSE University Receives Highest Grant under Priority 2030 Programme
HSE University has proved its leading position in the first group of the ‘Research Leadership’ field under the Priority 2030 programme. The university has also received the highest grant for teaching digital competencies to students, demonstrating its educational leadership in the fields of digital technologies and AI.
Season Six of HSE CREATIVE OPEN Competition Begins
Beginner-level specialists and students, as well as graduates of any university, regardless of geographical location, are invited to participate. Works can be submitted in the categories of Identity, Object Design, Illustration and Comics, Game Visuals, and Sound until January 21, 2024. Launched by the HSE Art and Design School in 2022, the competition collected more than 1,500 works in its first year. Its goal is to present a unified platform to host original ideas and spectacular projects in all areas of design, contemporary art, and fashion, as well as to draw the attention of the creative community to the development of professions in the industry.

During a visit to China, an HSE University delegation headed by Vice Rector Victoria Panova arranged to extend cooperation agreements with Fudan University and East China Normal University (ECNU). HSE University at EdCrunch X: Online Campus Transforms Students’ and Teachers’ Perceptions
HSE University’s online campus took part in EdCrunch X, the anniversary global conference on digital technologies in education, in November. The event, under the slogan ‘Imagine a world where everyone has equal opportunities,’ brought together more than 3,000 in-person participants in Almaty, Kazakhstan, and more than 10,000 online listeners from 25 countries.

'Empowering Minds, Driving Transformation: Redefining the Future of Higher Education' was the topic of the 18th Higher Education Summit held in New Delhi, the capital of India. The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the Indian Ministry of Education invited a delegation from HSE University-St Petersburg to participate in the key events of the summit.

A multimodal neural network model by Sber, under the supervision of HSE University’s expert commission, has successfully passed the Unified State Exam in social studies. GigaChat completed all exam tasks and scored 67 points.
‘Oh My, I’m Doing It Exactly that Way’: Non-Verbal Communication Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
On November 24, a unique event for HSE international students—a practice-oriented training session on ‘How to Make a Good Impression in an Interview: Non-Verbal Communication’—took place at HSE University. Natalia Trubnikova, author of the training, covered the basics of nonverbal communication and body language; non-verbal mistakes that lead to difficulties, misunderstandings and communication failures; cross-cultural features of sign language, speed and manner of gesticulation, speech features; nonverbal tips and tricks to convey your point of view, and much more. Together with the expert, HSE students worked on self-confidence and solved real communication cases.
