HSE Students Win Science Communications Case Competition
Students on the Integrated Communications Master’s programme won first place at the Case Lab: practical solutions for science communication problems contest. The competition was organised jointly by SPN Communications and the Russian Venture Company RVC as part of the Communications Laboratory project.
HSE Perm Holds International Conference on Applied Research in Economics
HSE Perm has hosted the third International Conference on Applied Research in Economics, or iCARE, which saw the participation of scholars from 12 countries representing 21 different organizations ranging from universities and research centres to central banks and consulting firms. Opening iCARE were the head of the conference’s programme committee Dr Dmitri Vinogradov (University of Essex) and HSE Perm Deputy Director Dmitriy Potapov.

HSE Presents the Exhibition ‘Opening the Collection. The World by Russian Photographer Sergey Chelnokov’ in the Museum of Moscow
In October 2015, the Museum of Moscow will exhibit a unique collection of images of pre-revolutionary Moscow from Sergey Chelnokov’s archive, available for the first time for the general public. Most of the photos were made using the then-unique technique of ‘stereo-pairs’, which require the images to be viewed through a special device, creating a 3D picture. A series of lectures ‘Photography and Cultural Memory’ will run alongside the exhibition.

Spend a Semester in Moscow
Applications are being accepted until October 30 for the Semester in Moscow programme, which allows international students to spend either a semester or a full academic year at HSE. The programme is open to all international students who wish to apply to study at HSE on a fee-paying basis.
Migrants’ Children Forget their Homeland and Native Language
Children of labour migrants from Central Asia don’t want to preserve their ethnic self-definition, i.e. to speak their native language and follow their cultural traditions. They try to distance themselves from people of their ethnic identity and become fully locals. Both Russian schools and parents further this process, concluded Raisa Akifyeva, senior lecturer at the St. Petersburg School of Social Sciences and Humanities Department of Sociology, as a result of her research.

HSE to Partner with Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais
On September 24, an HSE delegation visited the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (Belo Horizonte, Brazil). UFMG Rector Jaime Ramirez and the HSE Vice Rector for International Affairs, Sergei Erofeev, signed a Memorandum of Understanding that provides for collaboration in the areas of undergraduate and postgraduate studies, research, and student exchanges. It also supports summer and winter schools and partnerships in the form of co-supervision.
Baltic Practice Turns to the East
The Baltic Practice International Summer School, held by the HSE Public Policy Department, has celebrated its 15th anniversary. Its organizers and participants recently spoke about what’s most important for people to know about the Baltic Practice, and about why, after 15 years, the school is changing direction.
